Let's get out of the way first: no whine long enough or loud enough that I feel about mount inside ballyhooed GoPro 2016 Toyota Tacoma. 30 cents brand plastic film your "eXtreme" Adventures feels more artificial and commercially useless a TEDx talk at your local community college. It is there, it is usable and I mean tens of thousands other parts around the mount windshield.
Most of the world midsize pickups remained the same since the Clinton administration. (I mean the years of Bill to anyone reading this in 2017.)
Update slightly in 05, but mostly unchanged since the 190s, the Toyota Tacoma has stayed firmly ahead of its time despite playing catch-up to the full-size galoots. What I mean is, the Tacoma has used to sell a lot more at the end of its life cycle than it does at the beginning. Go figure.
For example, take the last year for the Tacoma. Despite being a truck that has not changed for 10 years, the Tacoma has managed to sell more than 17,000 trucks in July, its best month of sales ever, heading for 180,000 sales this year, which would be his best sales year ever. By volume, the Tacoma is the fifth best-selling truck in America, just behind the GMC Sierra, and well behind the three major domestic full-size boys. (The, uh, new Tundra was sixth, by the way.)
Falling gas prices helped displaced metal, and therefore of cheap money, but the Tacoma is a pick- up very, very solid and the growing gap between reality and the price of a full-size truck unsatisfactory for $ 25,000- $ 30,000 to the door.
So why fix something that is not broken? Toyota said it has nothing to do with Chevrolet and GMC jump in the midsize market with the Colorado and Canyon respectively. He did not even nothing to do with the new Nissan Frontier coming soon in the market too.
No, Toyota said it has updated the Tacoma to step on the necks of others and advance the Tacoma in 21 st century. This is as close as Toyota will happen to go for the jugular.
Exterior
Tacoma falls into the same pace of business by following near the front design of the Tundra. His face chunkier, with a more open trapezoid grille is bookended by two LED headlights with daytime running lights and a more angular hood. The lower jaw Tacoma becomes a bit of an underbite this year with its black front air dam sheathed, and the fog lamps are now visually connected with black plastic all the way across his forehead.
side, the Tacoma looks virtually unchanged from last year, and the rear end would be the same story if there were not the tailgate stamped with the words "TACOMA "to tell the world what you're driving. The rear bumper is in three pieces, which is handy for something that will probably see a lot of action in his life, but the front bumper is still in one piece, which seemed odd.
The Tacoma beautiful proportions remain the same. The cover seems that it takes more than a third of the wheelbase of 127.4 inches overall (140.6 with a long bed) and the rear end takes more than a third as well. two cab configurations Tacoma - Access and Double Cab - gets sandwiched in the middle, which gives the Tacoma a muscular compact look
According to Toyota, more than 80 percent of Tacomas on the road will be dual . Cabs, 85 percent will be V-6, and 97 percent will be with an automatic transmission. Therefore it carries the four doors as naturally, with the shorter models Access Cab-mark somewhat incomplete. All the models we had the chance to drive were four-door, V-6, automatic 4 × 4, so we can not really account for any variation outside that.
(PS Reps Toyota said that the only people who actually buy Tacomas four cylinders are Northeasterners who may be angry that the "low boy" 4 × 2 left for this generation, and that they account for only 1 in 10 sales.)
All 2016 Tacomas will be built on the same chassis high, regardless of whether they have a case of transfer. Whether by design or accident, the deep black wheel well hidden wheels and tires of Tacoma, and it was hard for us to tell the difference between the 16- available, 17- and sizes of 18-inch wheels. (The latter is standard on Limited version only).
Interior
The 2016 Tacoma interior received major improvements outside did. Inside, most Tacomas will carry a 6.1 or 7 inch touchscreen with Entune applications, six speakers, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and Siri Eyes Free. For most, the system is easy to use and simple, except for the integrated navigation system commits the cardinal sin of not being usable when the car is moving. Like other writers here, I sincerely wish the manufacturers would use the passenger side airbag sensor to determine if anyone else was riding along and unlock the controls when a passenger is present. It would be useful to use this touch screen sometimes.
A 4-inch multifunction display useful in the instrument cluster relays critical information (and looks like a Camry, by the way), including tire pressure, time and fuel range . Fortunately, the Tacoma tachometer and speedometer exceeded were replaced by smaller, simpler dials that ditch the white halo and just give me the straight dope.
The interior including door inserts, dashboard and seats are stitched together a combination of average quality fabrics, vinyl and fair touchable hard plastics, textured. In all, I am grateful that the Tacoma is rough and dry so easily - especially in the lower trim - but I do not feel the same about its touch infotainment system. I slept on one of these things in the dust before and it is a mess to clean. It does not feel like it would be particularly useful with gloves.
Fortunately, all fittings above the SR model (which will SR5, TRD Sport, TRD off road and Limited) leather- wrapped steering wheel gets firm and is comfortable to grip, but with the ability limited telescoping.
Neolithic latest generation of climate control buttons have been replaced by a more modern LCD, compact (double climate controls are standard on Limited, available in TRD off-road package Sport) that is easy to read and is not lifted any other Toyota I recognize. I like this.
Gated shifter? Check. Main parking brake? Check. Better transmission boot around the gear lever? I can not blame any of those things.
I would, however, like Toyota to review its ergonomic steering wheel controls. Anyone who can naturally find the volume control without looking gets a cookie. It is impossible.

Powertrain
The biggest news this year is the release of 4-liter V-6, which gives way to a smaller, more powerful 3.5-liter Atkinson cycle V-6 with direct injection and port.
and the latter mill makes the most of available technology from Toyota. The Tacoma is the first Toyota brand to use direct injection and port (direct is used to make more efficient lower speeds, the port is used in high speed available to stimulate production) and the first application of this truck system. Paired with a smaller displacement and Atkinson cycle, the new Tacoma powertrain manages 15 percent to 20 percent better fuel economy, while gaining 42 horsepower. The only sacrifice: Tacoma loses its distinctive roar
The sound of 4 liters is gone and has been replaced by the quiet hum of the 3.5-liter V6 .. Although Toyota does never use the word Tacoma and Camry in the same breath, their relationship is undeniable. The new Tacoma drives like a Camry, and it's not all bad.
Toyota did not make available to its I-4, nor do they want to talk much. Including the engine of the new generation of Tacoma has not quite make much sense to me, and I would not be completely surprised if a version of their turbo four (reinforced for truck duty) made its way into the mainstream of the range soon.
Power is transferred to 6-speed automatic Tacoma (for I-4 and V-6), 5-speed manual (I-4 only) 6-speed manual or (V-6). The smooth automatic shifting had an easy time keeping the engine speed down the street, but needed more advice on the ground. Without using ECT (retention rate) or to engage in walking distance of Tacoma, the desired gear for truck on dirt roads and felt a little too eager to move up. This may be inevitable to achieve higher ratings for fuel economy, but it is notable.
In TRD Tacoma Off Road package wins the analysis control function that takes off from famous sand or through a mountain. You could make a case that roaders seriously who is interested in hitting their Tacomas around probably mountain does not need to control automated gas or advanced down hill functions, but I do not know many people who could manage to dig up four wheels. Bring on the robots.

It takes a huge amount of confidence to update a truck that sells so well now, and Toyota is smarter that stifle its own success.
In fact, Toyota has not done much in his Tacoma could not have been done before. A different unit heads, some better interior materials and better packaging is not revolutionary -. They are evolutionary
The 3.5-liter V-6 does its best to replace an engine that was not great to begin with and it's a good start. The Tacoma is a comfortable and able to conduct roader.
The Tacoma is not going for the throat of the other midsize truck manufacturers, and it certainly has no killer instinct. In reality, the Tacoma is just a killer pick-up, and here
