My childhood was a bit different of most children. My mother taught me that when I was 4, I did not know a cow a sheep, but I knew the make and model just about every car on the road.
For this, she was angry at my father, who would read automotive magazines for me - the books not children. It was his insistence to watch things like Camel Trophy and Formula 1 racing, and not a soccer game, which I carved in the car nut that I am today.
And it was his influence and experience that led me to believe that a certain brand makes the best four-wheel drive, by far.
the current generation Range Rover Sport was introduced in 2013 at New York Auto Show, when James Bond himself (which is shorter in life real than expected) conducted an on stage. As before, the front half of the Sport looks almost exactly like the big Range Rover, but behind the B-pillar, the slope of the roof and windows to the ground, which I think is what makes the sport. Ironically, the smallest Range Rover Sport is available with a set of small jump seats in the third row, not the big Rover.
As the great Range Rover Sport is available with three engines: a V-6 and V-8 supercharged all; and a new turbo diesel. This particular vehicle was equipped with the base 360 horsepower V-6, which has never felt underpowered, but did not overwhelm either. The 510-horsepower - or the new, granted 550 horses - V-8 was bonkers in this vehicle
All Range Rover engines are mated to an automatic transmission 8-speed, which WOT or wheel free. Seem to always be in the right equipment. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates the V-6 Sport at 17/22 mpg city / highway. Receive approval from the EPA a day before the VW diesel fiasco broke out, the diesel versions of the two large Range Rover are on sale last month for the first time on American soil and I can not wait to drive.
When it was introduced, rightly Land Rover made much of any unibody aluminum. The Range Rover Sport grows as a large sports sedan than an SUV, and unlike any Land Rover product before it. The ride is smooth and even the worst road imperfections are absorbed with a quiet thud. The vehicle was photographed by an optional set of 22-inch wheels wrapped in 275/40 Continental tires CrossContact. These wheels simply felt too big and made me more nervous around potholes and on a dirt road for an all-terrain capable should have -. I like the size of the wheel stock and tires
The roll is minimal (disclaimer: it a few years ago I almost rolled a discovery of 01 on the Merritt Parkway) and its brakes feel strong, do an excellent job of bringing the vehicle 4,800 pounds to a stop in an emergency
inside, the dashboard. the layout is almost identical to the big Range Rover, which means a modern-minimalist design that is both pleasing to the eye and functional
But nothing is perfect. The infotainment system is slow and dated and there are only two cup holders. There is no bottle holders in the door pockets, no sunglasses holder and your phone is forced to live in the center console. In this model, the lower part of the center console was taken by an electric cooler, which is nice on road trips, and can serve as storage otherwise.
The front seats compensate for the inconvenience. Adjustable in 16 ways, they are somehow the right size for almost all the buttocks, and padded in a way that forces the driver to maintain good posture while offering the legendary Range Rover position of king-of-the -Road sitting. If there is something to complain about, it is the sport seats, especially headrests, are not as sweet as the big Rover. HSE on this model, they were both cooled and ventilated, but the massage option was not there. Boo hoo.
The rear seat is a three-seater bench with a large center armrest. There is a good amount of legroom, and three adults should be comfortable. The seats fold flat and are split 40/20/40, for both passengers and items such as skis back. With the seats up, cargo volume is 27.7 cubic feet, 4.4 cubic feet less than the big Rover.
Although both Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have the same wheelbase of 115 inches, the sport is 5.6 inches shorter overall. The total height difference is 2 inches for the larger Range Rover. These differences, as well as the Sport roof slope, add to a significant difference in functional ability between the two vehicles.
Although most of the Range Rover are not used to their full potential, it should be noted that sport is more than just a pretty face.
package of additional services includes optional system "Response2 Land," a two-speed transfer case, an active locking center and rear differentials, which works surprisingly well and gives the true capabilities off-Sport road, as I discovered it some time ago (read parts 1,2,3)
it is interesting that this package is optional. one side is little use on another, it is a Range Rover and it should come standard with a 2-speed transfer case. The capacity of the optional roof rack is 165 pounds and the car can ford over 30 inches of water. The Range Rover Sport can tow up to 7.715 pounds, but the weight of the maximum language is limited to 551 pounds.
The 2015 Range Rover Sport starts at $ 63.350. The HSE variant seen here starts at $ 68.295. Before Climate Comfort Package adds visibility and $ 2,530. Extra Duty Package, which includes Land Response®2 system and a transfer case with two speeds, is $ 1,500. Tow Package is $ 00, Meridian Audio is $ 1.940, 22-inch wheels are an eye-watering $ 3000 painting of the premium is $ 1,800, ebony, headliner is $ 350. InControl App, remote & Protect is $ 400, and a protection package, dealer is $ 537. Add $ 100 for emissions California (really?), $ 925 for transportation costs, and the grand total comes to $ 82,227.
The Range Rover Sport, like its big brother, not everyone. It is expensive and has somewhat of a reputation worthy of amateurs who have ever owned or driven one. Despite the love Land Rover, my father, a bit like me, never owned one, mainly because of cost. While there are plenty of less expensive vehicles that can do everything a Range Rover can only Range Rover makes many drivers feel special in a way that is difficult to verbalize, and just really need be experienced. If an income to seven figures unexpectedly came my way, a Land Rover dealership will be the first place I go.
