Lincoln worked to get their mojo back luxury for some time, but until 'now much he tried to sell a half-step larger models for luxury buyers. This meant a major value proposition, but engineers often skimp on the luxury keep prices low. MKC is a completely different animal, however. This Lincoln is essentially the same size as the Lexus NX and GLK. Although the MKC is ultimately the same size as its competitors, she walks to a different drummer, and after a week I finally realized something. It is refreshing to have something different.

Exterior

Let's talk first competition. MKC is Lincoln's answer to the X3, Q5, NX, XC60 and GLK. This seems to confuse some people who assume the MKC and Lexus NX were designed to compete with the X1 and Evoque. Looking at the specifications, MKC is located right between the Q5 and GLK in overall dimensions.

By now you have probably heard the MKC is the "Esc Lincoln," but what does that really mean? Security systems and body structure designs MKC shares with the Escape. However, it shares no sheetmetal with the Ford. Lincoln did not simply re-skin the Escape, either. They expanded body and track while they were at it, resulting in lower, wider stance which is most appropriate in the luxury segment as the perky upright character of the Escape. This is essentially the same formula used for the Lexus Lexus NX, which is a cousin of the RAV4. As NX and RAV4, Escape parts of the hide inside the MKC, but you have to look pretty hard to find.

The MKC gets the last grille design of Lincoln, which is narrower than the MKT weird schnoz. Although images of MKC seem polarizing passersby thought the MKC was attractive in person. If you think about the back thing seems unfinished hair, you're not alone. It is the lack of a projecting bumper of any kind. Apart from the unfinished aesthetic, devoid of any real meaning accidents bumper with larger vehicles may damage the tailgate in addition to the bumper cover, increasing repair costs.

MKC use the best interior Lincoln has ever created. Period. More than that, the model with the real leather is probably a better place to spend your time than the current Q5, GLK, QX50, RDX or XC60. Go for the Black Label and package things are taken to the next level. Lincoln buyers have a greater ability to customize their intersection than most of the competition with four different colors of furnishings that coordinate with the three colors of the dashboard and two different doors and wood veneer options (you can not mix and match). Opting for the Black Label edition gives you four "themes" to choose additional. If you want this kind of selection, MKC and Evoque are really your only options, and the Range Rover does not allow much customization on the base models.

Front seat comfort is highly dependent on the shape of your body. I am 6 feet tall and found the back seat cushions oddly short and lack of support from the thigh. At 5 feet 4 inches in height person told me that the seats are like a glove. Despite being smaller than all but the Mercedes GLK, the rear seats proved comfortable and easily accommodate the XC60.

The cargo area is the greatest compromise in the MKC. It is notably smaller than most of the competition with only 25 cubic space behind the rear seats. There are about 20 percent more space in the Volvo.

Infotainment

MyLincoln Touch is curiously named fail, and received more than its share of bad press. Is it plant now and then? Sure. But I actually think MLT is a reason to MKC on your list, not remove it. Volvo Sensus Connect uses a smaller screen and, despite the new connected features, still lack decent control devices / media USB iOS. MMI Audi and Mercedes COMAND systems are attractive but lack the voice command library that you get in the Lincoln. iDrive is still my preferred option infotainment, but Lincoln can give competition with SYNC3 come due after next year.

Training

Under the hood, the order sheet begins with a direct injection turbo 2.0L engine good for 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Instead of a 6-cylinder engine completing the high end like the Europeans, Lincoln chose to take the 2.3L turbo new Mustang instead. It was five years ago, that would have been derided as crazy, but Lexus went just 4-cylinder in the new NX and Volvo is committed to the disappearance of their turbos five and six-cylinder as well. Unfortunately, the 2.3L engine growl lost in translation, from 310 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of the Mustang to 285 ponies and 305 lb-ft of twist. the 2.0L buyers can choose between traction or four-wheel drive while the 2.3L model gets standard AWD.

Both engines are mated to the 6F35 6-speed automatic gearbox. The transaxle 6F35 is probably due to the reduction of the power of the air used in the Mustang. Although Ford does not specifically mention the torque capacity as General Motors, Ford 6F35 is substantially similar to the transaxle GM 6T50, peaking at 260 lb-ft. (GM and Ford have designed their transaxles 6 speed together.) Since the design of the engine subframe in the MKC is largely unchanged compared to the Escape, 6F50 more torque capacity and transaxles 6F55 probably did not match. To take account of the 2.3L engine, Ford replaced the standard torque converter of the 6F35 with a higher torque unit, but no internal transmission components have been changed. This allowed the whole package to have roughly the same dimensions as the 2.0L powerplant. I suspect it also explains why the maximum towing rating drops 1,000lbs when equipped with the 2.3L engine.

In an interesting twist, most dealers will MKCs on a suspension with active dampers. This is a significant difference between the Lincoln and competition generally not active dampers at all costs. This means that we need a quick lesson suspension from active dampers are a huge part of the personality of the MKC.

springs and dampers work together to make a drive and manage somehow. The springs maintain the vehicle ride height and the compression and rebound to comply with the road surface. Dampers control the movement of the spring in both directions. The spring rate and damping are carefully matched by the engineers of vehicles and in most cars, they are set. In vehicles with dynamic dampers, spring rates remain constant and the depreciation rate becomes a variable. For this to work, you must start with a "soft" spring and when you want a firmer ride you try to compensate with "firmer" damping. While such systems significantly improve the conduct and allow the driver to customize the suspension within a particular range, they may feel quite different.

The first clue Lincoln had another mission in mind for the MKC is obvious when you start driving. If the suspension is in comfort mode, you get the smoothest ride in this segment by a mile. MKC is so sweet in this mode first I assumed the baby was Lincoln 1,000lbs heavier. With the suspension in normal mode, the MKC feels more buttoned down, but there are still a lot of trick and dive and roll. companies "Sport" things up, but the feeling is not the same as you'd find in a traditional arched vehicle. The reason is that although the dampers can restrict movement, the springs are still pillowy soft.

Initially, I was puzzled by the soft suspension and assumed the athletic ability would be harmed as a result. I was wrong. With a 0-60 sprint of 6.15 seconds, the 2.3L MKC beats most entries, corresponding to the 325 hp and XC60 R-Design just behind the X3 xDrive35i and RDX in the non-performance category. It also arrested 60 mph in an impressive 112 feet in our tests and a respectable .83Gs in the test skidpad Edmund. (CAPD has no access to a skidpad.) This is possible because the MKC is light for a luxury crossover, from 3791 to FWD 2.0L TRIM to 3989 lbs in AWD 2.3L model.

Price

As expected Lincoln, prices start low at $ 33,100, undercutting BMW by more than $ 5,000, and we get about $ 500 of additional equipment in the MKC base. Adding AWD to the edges of the base model to $ 2,495. That seems steep, but Lincoln bundles dynamic suspension and some other goodies with it. Our 2.3L AWD tester started $ 40,145 and had $ 7,775 of added options for MKC essentially a full load.

The Black Label model is an interesting option. Black Label is on luxury and customization, not performance. This means you can get the 2.0L engine with front trim in Black Label from $ 46,205. For extra dosh, a "shopping assistant" will help you choose from four unique interior themes, five unique wood veneers and some additional paint options. The interior is also upgraded with faux-suede headliners and more standard features. In addition to the goodies, you get better service with regular maintenance and wear the cover article (shocks, belts, etc.), a car loan when yours is being repaired, washing the car life a Lincoln dealer and retailer services annually.

I must admit that when I took the MKC on the road, I did not like him. The well-appointed interior is attractive, but the ultra-soft driving dynamics took some getting used to. Then a strange thing happened. A friend of mine who is in her early 30s said, "I'm tired of my hard race but I still want X3 crossover" I'd drive the MKC and it was love at first end and diving.. I suddenly realized: the Lexus NX to the Mercedes GLK, each of the competition is trying to be flexible all-terrain that can lap the Nürburgring in less than 9 minutes unless the MKC

..

Lincoln can hang with the middle of the pack in terms of manipulation, but manipulation sensation is an entirely different matter. the soft suspension turns into feeling lazy nonexistent steering feel and hushed cabin. the combination means MKC is eminently able with high limits, but the design of the vehicle, it is difficult to determine where these limits. If this sounds like the kind of Lexus product used to be known for (before they too started running BMW) you're right. once I stopped chasing the X3, I realized how refreshing it was to have a competitive product without the "me-too." Congratulations Lincoln.
