in 1984, during my Honda-hawking days in Texas, our neighbor Mercedes-Benz dealer was atwitter on Daimler introduced the first "baby Benz" the 10E sedan. We knew our only Agreement queue was a far superior car, but that did not stop two of our vendors to purchase 10Es while the rest of us stuck with our Chevy trucks. The little Mercedes was a turd: terribly uncertain, narrow and slow. Much to our delight, the media said that the 10E was not worth twice the price of an Agreement.

Fast forward to 2016, readers and writers of your humble sites have voted the entry of latest range Mercedes, the front-wheel -drive CLA250 elegant, as one of the ten worst Automobiles Today ' hui. As with the 10E, the CLA is flying off dealers' lots, while we know?

Mercedes-Benz introduced the latest version of the C-Class there two years and is now the best-selling model of the brand in America by a wide margin - not to mention outselling handily its main competitor, the BMW 3 Series

This is finally a small Benz that everyone loves and for good reason .. the C300 is a miniature S-Class.

The new C-Class W205 is coded internally. I had to check. In my 17 years working with Mercedes-Benz USA sales executives, I've never heard them call a vehicle by its internal name. Referring to the cars as E39s and W116s is strictly snooty passionate slang. Get a group of them together and you'd think they were talking Bingo.

The new generation C is 220 pounds lighter, slightly longer and wider than its predecessor. This basic C300 is powered by a new 2.o-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 241 horsepower. The C-Class built Alabama is also available as a plug-in hybrid, "mini-AMG" C450 (soon renamed correctly C43) with a V6 turbo 362 hp, and two twin-turbo V8 AMG monsters with up to 503 horses.

My wife and I picked up our new C300 Sport package last month and led on a road trip of 3,0 miles, driving from Tucson to Seattle, then down the coast of Oregon and California, the meeting literally all types of road and weather conditions.

driving around Benz-crazy Seattle and San Francisco, it was fun to dub a new generation Mercedes sedan and try to guess whether it was a class-C or S-class flagship, as the similarity style between the two cars is striking. They will be joined in this business look by the new E-Class, due out in a few weeks.

Unfortunately lacking in most new Benz sedans are the three branches hood ornament Star history. The C-Class is available with a luxury group that includes this feature, but it is almost impossible to find one. The biggest Benz dealership in the country, in Southern California, has several hundred C300 in stock and none of them have the stand-up star. There are a few available on the East Coast and Midwest, but each is a variation four-wheel drive.

I imagine most cross-shopping prospects C300 against the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 choose Benz for elegant interior only. Of aluminum toggle switches to the center console sweep that blends into the console in black ash wood on our tester in which you can actually feel the grain, the surroundings are just beautiful.

I must assign Mercedes-Benz honor to have the best control button Placed in 2016 for its introduction of the defeat switch for the annoying engine Start / Stop function. It's located on the center console exactly where your right hand rests on the input, so you will never forget to turn it off.

Kudos also to Benz cruise control system. It allows you to easily vary the speed of 1 and 5 mile per hour increments and gently brakes the car downhill. Why do most cars do you turn the cruise control, then set the cruise? In this car, set your active speed cruising.

The 14-way adjustable power proved comfortable and supportive seats during our long stay. Be leggy, I appreciated the support of the seat extension function. And, yes, the seats are covered in faux leather Mercedes, MB Tex, as are 0 percent of its vehicles. I swear MB Tex looks more genuine leather with each new model.

Have an inseam of 36 inches also means I have to slide the seat forward for adults can fit in the back seat. The C300 is considered a five-passenger vehicle, but I guess that means three children in the back. Two adults can ride there in comfort, but with a limited margin, especially in models with optional panoramic opening roof.

The pano roof has a sun visor see-through, which means it can let in too many rays in summer here in Arizona. Most other Benz vehicles have a strong umbrella.

The C300 has folding rear seats and a trunk of 12.6 cubic feet, almost identical in size to that of its big brother E-Class.

infotainment

As I noted in my recent review of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE350, the 8.4-inch infotainment screen supported on dashboard in Benz models news is not so bad in person compared to the pictures that caused a million commentators on the Internet to scream "ugly!" Its graphics are much improved and is closer to the height driver's eye before.

My biggest complaint the C300 is the unnecessary complexity of the new generation Comand system. It seems a function to take one or two button clicks or twirls the rotary controller now takes five or six

Note to Mercedes-Benz :. It's a car, not a website. More clicks is bad

Having to mix and mash controls four function options - The old mode buttons, voice control, rotary controller and the new touchpad -. Is frustrating

C class cars have not yet received the Apple app freshness carplay we tested in GLE350. This model proposes the use of the Companion app MB to control many functions from a distance. My favorite is the ability to find destinations from your smartphone and instantly send them to the Comand navigation system. Ironically, the navigation system will not allow you to drive and enter the same time addresses, but you can drive and type addresses on the application on your phone.

my concern about the performance of my first four-cylinder Benz was quickly put to rest. Although a little rough sometimes, the reagent motor is generally smooth and has tons of torque to propel the C300 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds.

This car has replaced my 2015 Volkswagen GTI, I wrote were "minimal turbo lag." I hereby withdraw the statement. The C300 really turbo lag next to zero. It can be felt for a microsecond to a certain position of the accelerator, but only if you focus on the find. The average consumer will never be noticed.

The seven-speed transmission shifts smoothly and responds instantly to paddle shifters. The C300 Coupé offers just published a new transmission with nine speeds, which would no doubt find its way into C sedans soon.

A run up the mountain road in California 1 US 101 in Mendocino was surprisingly entertaining, with the C300 flat cornering and remain neutral while traveling in car maybe 80 percent of its processing potential because many blind corners. (But how many of us so-called "fans" really lead to more than 80%?) My only problem was that the initial response to steering input was a bit lazy, even in 'Sport' mode .

The C300 is equipped with the Sport package group, which includes the choice of 18- or 19-inch wheels plus a "sport suspension." (Geez, is there a manufacturer that does not use this description ?) driving this car with 18-inch wheels can be a little hard on rough roads, although typical Mercedes smooth on most other surfaces. Opting for the basic models or luxury packaging with their 17-inch wheels will provide better driving.

the C300 is calm and comfortable, fast enough for most people, is loaded with advanced security features and returns good fuel economy. with the transaction price $ 40,000s in the middle for a well-equipped C300, it is the best value in the Mercedes-Benz range and excellent small luxury vehicle

the line of new C-class has ventured into territory E. - Class, but that will change soon with the arrival of the redesigned E and even more over-the-top interior.
